This was a second incarnation of the Award Winning sites. The first was built to look like an award, where this one was designed to be a bit more slick and clean. I learned a lot from the first one, so I had a little more fun with this go around.
The point of this network of sites was to provide the public with a place to go that would be a collection of the world's best surgeons. Kind of like Facebook and the phone book combined.
One of the cool features of the site was the Search module that was built into the banner, right above the top nav, that would allow the user to type in their location and it would bring up a Google map that'd show all surgeons around the address that was entered.
Each surgeon was sent an invitation to the site, where they would pay a membership fee to join and after their credentials were verified they'd be given an award letting their patients know that they were part of the Award Winning network.
Also, since they were a member, this implied the ability to control their own account. So not only did I have to develop a cart system for the memberships and awards, but also for user profiles. This was an overall very challenging project since it's scope covered a lot of difficult aspects of web development. When all was said and done, I was able to add a bunch of new tools to my development grab-bag, and hopefully this site makes the rounds and helps some people in the future.
