Finally got around to the door handle, and all the lights. All that's left on the body is the gas tank, and some re-working of the front fender. Started modeling the interior, and playing with some textures. Gonna have to tackle the wheels real soon too, those temps just aren't cutting it anymore.
There's no place I can be ... Since I found ...
I recently finished watching the first (and only) season of Firefly again and was curious as to what the cast was up to. One thing led to another and somehow I went from IMDB to Google to a site that had some Lightwave tutorials on how to build the Serenity. These tutorials are great reference on all the parts of the ship, but I use 3DS Max for my 3D work, and Max doesn't like Booleans too much. Frankly I don't either, they make for a messy mesh. I bring this up because the guy who made the tutorials tends to use Booleans for every other step.
So I'm gradually working my way through the tuts building one section at a time, but it's taking a while due to not taking the shortcuts of Boolean. And since I'm building this thing from the ground up I'm making a few modifications along the way. You diehard fans out there may be able to spot the differences, but I make the changes outta love and the belief that they make for a better ship.

Colonial Viper Mark II
Got the back gear set up and looking good. I ended up re-modeling the back gear hatches, and re-rigging the back legs.. had to do that twice cuz of Max's funky mirroring of bones and constraints. Anyway, that's done, yay.
So the back landing gear is built and rigged, but I don't like the way it looks at the moment. The front is smooth and functions how I picture it would if it were real.. the back on the other hand is not, so I think I'm gonna have to redo the rigging set up. The landing gear is one of the things they don't really show any of, so I'm kinda wingin' it.

Grand Space Opera
I decided to enter into the CGSociety Grand Space Opera challenge. Basically you design a really cool space scene in 2D or 3D, and if you get picked by some judges you win a lot of cool shit, and you earn some clout. The image off to the side is what I've got so far for one of the main characters. And here are some designs for potential ships that'll be flying around in the BG. I'll post more as I make it.
My name's Trevor Lemon, and this is my blog. I'll try to
update it with whatever I'm working on, random thoughts, links to
shit I think is cool; whatever I deem worthy I suppose.
