I've been really wanting to do a painting lately but I was having a lack of ideas. Then randomly one morning while taking a shower I had an idea that'd it be cool to get together with some friends and have a drawing night. Then I started thinking "well maybe we should all come up with some ideas, then when we got together we could throw those ideas into a pot and pick some at random to draw". One of the ideas I came up with was the Cheshire Cat. Well I never got around to contacting anyone about the drawing night, but I still thought that cat would be fun and that's how this guy happened.

Here's a quick rundown of my process on this one.

  • 1. Threw down some sketches of some elements that I wanted in the piece.
  • 2. Scanned in the elements and arange the line-art in PS.
  • 3. Layed down some base colors that I'll be using for general tone and selection groups.
  • 4-12 Worked on the shading of the cat and elements
  • 13-14. added the tag and it's shading
  • 15. Overlayed the color layer over the shading and a background
  • 16. Messin' with some more color, highlights, and shading.
  • 17. Decided to go with a complimentary BG, smoothed out some details.
  • 18. Final piece. Added some light in areas, moved some elements around, painted some paint splatter in the BG.
