When ever I see a movie with this much hype I'm a bit gaurded, which can sometimes be unfair to the movie. You go in expecting the worse and it may turn out to be crap even if it's a decent movie. Well, I'm very happy to say that it lived up to the hype. There's not much about this movie that I can say that hasn't already been broadcast or written. As far as the story goes, it's a mix of a Hayao Miyazaki 'man against nature' film, FernGully, Last of the Mohicans, and Dances with Wolves. I don't usually compare one movie to another, but in all fairness, when you combine the best concepts from some great movies, you'll most likely get a winner. So far I may not be selling this as a should-watch movie. But you should, in the theaters, in 3D. Sure this movie may be a mish-mash of some other great movies, and you may think "this 3D thing's just a gimmick that a lot of movies are using". Well, 3D is a gimmick that a lot of movies are using, but this movie was designed for it. They literally built a living world on the computer for this movie to take place in. That combined with the beautiful characters and seamless CGI between the live action human actors and EVERYthing else, truly makes this a movie experience. Now I don't throw that term around lightly, I think the last time was Jurassic Park. I remember watching that and afterwards thinking "man, that was something else". It's not often that something this unique comes along, or more specifically, the first of something unique. We all know that there's gonna be some riding of the laurels in Hollywood after the final numbers have been tallied for this flicks payday. As an avid watcher and lover of cinema, I highly recommend this movie. Not for the story, or tall CGI Smurfs (I enjoyed both), but for the experience. Note: I don't usually choose a poster with the half-n-half face. As an artist I feel that they're overdone. In this case though, I felt it was an accurate representation of the movie. | ||
